Nilagiri, Dec 9: A major gold biscuit racket operating in the Nilagiri area of Balasore district has been exposed, following a swift police operation. The incident, which occurred at 9:29 PM on December 7, 2025, came to light after a complaint was lodged by Sangram Keshari Behera of Brahmagiri in Puri district.

According to police, Behera’s son Swapneshwar Behera was contacted two months ago by one Bapi Mallick, who promised to supply him with two gold biscuits and help arrange a buyer. Malik instructed him to collect a sample from Rohia Singh. Since Swapneshwar was posted as a teacher in Kalahandi, he sent his cousin Trinath Behera from Dalak village in Khordha district to collect the sample.

On Sunday, the parties met to finalize the deal for Rs 5 lakh. They were called to Pitama Sahi Chhak, near Aravinda School in Santaragadia. During the negotiation, accused Rohia Singh and his brother were present.

However, as the money was being taken out, three bikes suddenly arrived at the spot. The assailants attacked the victims, snatched a gold chain, and fled with the Rs 5 lakh brought for the transaction.

Following the complaint, Nilagiri police launched an investigation based on mobile tracking and arrested six accused persons. The operation led to the recovery of Rs 3.29 lakh, six mobile phones, and two motorcycles used in the crime.

Nilagiri SDPO Pramod Kumar Mallik, in a press briefing today, shared the details of the case. All six arrested individuals have been forwarded to court.
