PM Modi to Release ₹18,880 Crore Under 23rd PM-KISAN Instalment on June 20

New Delhi, June 18: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will disburse the 23rd instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme on June 20 during a programme at Tarakeswar in West Bengal’s Hooghly district. The latest instalment will provide direct financial assistance of more than ₹18,880 crore to over 9.44 crore farmers across the country.

According to official estimates, the amount will be transferred directly into beneficiaries’ bank accounts through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). Among the recipients are more than 2.18 crore women farmers, reflecting the government's continued focus on strengthening rural livelihoods and supporting the agricultural sector.

The event is being organised by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare in collaboration with the West Bengal government. More than one crore farmers are expected to participate virtually through Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), ICAR institutions, agricultural universities, Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), agricultural markets, PM Kisan Samriddhi Kendras, cooperative societies and village-level programmes across the country.

PM-KISAN Assistance to Surpass ₹4.46 Lakh Crore

With the release of the latest instalment, the cumulative financial support extended under PM-KISAN since its launch on February 24, 2019, is set to cross ₹4.46 lakh crore. The scheme provides eligible farmer families with annual income support aimed at enhancing financial stability and promoting sustainable agricultural growth.

West Bengal is expected to receive a substantial share of the disbursement. More than 45.35 lakh farmers in the state will receive over ₹907 crore under the latest instalment. Total transfers made under PM-KISAN in West Bengal are projected to exceed ₹15,055 crore.

The programme is expected to be attended by Governor C. V. Ananda Bose, Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, Union Agriculture Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Ministers of State Shantanu Thakur and Sukanta Majumdar, and Member of Parliament Samik Bhattacharya, among other dignitaries.

‘PM-KISAN Utsav Diwas’ to Mark the Occasion

To celebrate the release of the instalment, awareness and outreach programmes will be organised across states, districts, blocks and gram panchayats under the banner of “PM-KISAN Utsav Diwas.” The initiatives will highlight various Central and State government schemes aimed at increasing farmers’ incomes, improving agricultural productivity and accelerating rural development.

Major Agricultural Programmes to Be Rolled Out

During the visit, the Prime Minister will also launch and inaugurate several agriculture-focused initiatives covering crop insurance, digital agriculture, natural farming and district-level agricultural development.

Crop Insurance Schemes Introduced in West Bengal

A key announcement will be the rollout of the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) and the Restructured Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme (RWBCIS) in West Bengal.

PMFBY, launched nationally in 2016, offers protection against crop losses caused by natural calamities, adverse weather events, pests and diseases. During the 2026-27 agricultural year, the scheme is expected to provide insurance coverage to nearly 1.10 crore farmers across around 30 lakh hectares of agricultural land in the state.

The insured value of crops is estimated at ₹28,140 crore. To ensure affordable premiums for farmers, the Centre and the state government will jointly contribute nearly ₹777 crore as premium subsidy.

AgriStack to Strengthen Digital Agriculture

The Prime Minister will also launch AgriStack in West Bengal under the Digital Agriculture Mission, a nationwide initiative with an outlay of ₹2,817 crore.

The platform aims to integrate digital public infrastructure, artificial intelligence and space technology to improve agricultural service delivery. Through AgriStack, farmers will gain easier access to services such as fertiliser distribution, Kisan Credit Cards, direct benefit transfers, crop insurance and procurement under the Minimum Support Price (MSP) framework.

Officials said the initiative is expected to improve transparency, enhance efficiency and strengthen digital governance in the agriculture sector.

Natural Farming Mission to Benefit Thousands

The National Mission on Natural Farming (NMNF) will also be launched in the state. Introduced in November 2024, the mission promotes chemical-free farming practices rooted in traditional agricultural knowledge.

Under West Bengal’s 2026-27 action plan, 346 natural farming clusters will be established across 17,300 hectares, benefiting nearly 43,250 farmers. The programme will also support the creation of Bio-Input Resource Centres and encourage the participation of Krishi Sakhis to promote sustainable farming practices.

PM Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana to Cover Four Districts

The Prime Minister will further initiate the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana (PMDDKY) in West Bengal. Launched in October 2025, the scheme focuses on districts facing challenges such as low agricultural productivity, limited cropping intensity and inadequate access to institutional credit.

In West Bengal, the programme will cover Purulia, Darjeeling, Alipurduar and Jhargram districts. The initiative seeks to improve productivity, encourage crop diversification, strengthen irrigation and post-harvest infrastructure, enhance access to institutional finance and ensure better convergence of development programmes for farmers.
