Bhubaneswar, Jan 4: The Supreme Court has not yet repealed the Animal Welfare Act, said ace Animal Rights activist Maneka Gandhi on Sunday.
Responding to the media persons’ queries in Odisha’s Capital City Bhubaneswar on the recent verdict of the Apex Court regarding the strary dog menace, Maneka said that the Animal Welfare Act is a very good law to protect lives of animals, ensuring their safety & security with equally sustaining animals’ rights as a whole.
Pointing fingers towards the SC’s recent order on dealing with stary dogs & menace across the nation, Gandhi said, “What the SC Judges have ruled is wrong. It might provoke cruelty among the mass towards the voiceless animals, if they are inhumanely culled, shifted to secluded places and warehoused elsewhere for safety & security of people,”
During her interaction with the pressers, Maneka Gandhi said, “The SC has created an atmosphere of hate across India & I feel very sad because the SC remains the last Institution that we respect. However, what the Judges have done on the stray dogs’ issues is wrong by dividing India into people that ‘Hate-ones’ species and ‘love-ones’ species. They have done this service to India”
Underlining the significance of the prevailing Acts that is safeguarding the safety & security of domestic & wildlife resources, Maneka said that the Animal Welfare Act is a very good Act and it has protected animals and people from many years.
“They haven't repealed the law. They have simply said that you can act against the law. This is not right", said Maneka, expressing deep concern of enormous voiceless animal resources.
