Agartala (Tripura), Sep 22: On the auspicious first day of Navratri 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to inaugurate the newly redeveloped Mata Tripura Sundari temple, one of the 51 revered Shakti Peethas, in southern Tripura’s Udaipur on Monday.
As per reports, PM Modi will arrive in Agartala on Monday afternoon after virtually laying the foundation stone for 13 development projects worth over Rs 5,127 crore in Arunachal Pradesh’s Itanagar.
From Agartala, he will travel by helicopter to Udaipur, the headquarters of Gomati district, to inaugurate the newly redeveloped Mata Tripura Sundari temple, located 65 km south of Agartala.
A police official stated that a 12-kilometer roadshow from the Palatana helipad to the temple has been planned, with stringent security measures in place.
The official added that after inaugurating the redeveloped temple and its enhanced surroundings, PM Modi will offer puja at the Kali temple. He will then return to Agartala before departing for Delhi.
"As of now, there is no public address scheduled by the Prime Minister," the official noted.
It is worth noting that PM Modi's visit on Monday marks his 11th visit to the state and his second visit to the Mata Tripura Sundari temple since assuming office as Prime Minister in 2014. He had previously visited the temple and offered puja on April 7, 2019. His most recent trip to Tripura was on April 17, 2024, in connection with the Lok Sabha elections.
The 524-year-old Tripura Sundari temple, in southern Tripura’s Gomati district, has been redeveloped at a cost of over Rs 52 crore. The Tripura government has contributed Rs 7 crore to the project.
Built in 1501 by the state's former king, Maharaja Dhanya Manikya, the temple is one of the 51 revered Shakti Peethas in India. It is the third such shrine in eastern India, following the Kali temple in Kolkata's Kalighat and the Kamakhya temple in Guwahati.
After 517 years of rule by numerous kings, the erstwhile princely state of Tripura merged with the Indian Union on October 15, 1949, following a merger agreement signed between Kanchan Prabha Devi, the regent Maharani, and the Governor General.
