PM Modi presents exclusive ‘Made in Odisha’ gifts to top world leaders during G7 Summit

Bhubaneswar, June 19: Displaying Odisha's rich cultural heritage on the world stage, Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented handcrafted Silver Filigree Clutch Purse, sandstone replica of the iconic Konark Wheel and traditional Pattachitra painting to some of the top world leaders while attending the G7 Summit in Canada.

According to the reports, Prime Minister Modi gifted a handcrafted Silver Filigree, locally known as Tarakasi, a Clutch Purse to Governor General of Canada, Mary Simon and a sandstone replica of the iconic Konark Wheel to German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. 

He also presented a traditional Pattachitra painting to the President of Croatia, showcasing the timeless artistry from Odisha. The Pattachitra art form, which comes from the heritage village Raghurajpur in the Puri district, beautifully depicts Lord Jagannath. It captures the essence of Odisha's culture. 

The Silver Filigree is a traditional craft from Cuttack with a rich tradition of over 500 years. The purse is handcrafted and features delicate lace like designs made of very fine silver wires. This craft is inspired from designs seen on temples and once thrived under the support of the royals. To this day it continues to represent a facet of Odisha's rich craftsmanship.

The sandstone replica of the Konark Wheel, inspired by the 13th-century Sun Temple in Odisha, is a beautifully carved embodiment of Indian architecture and symbolism. The natural sandstone, carved with all 24 spokes of the Konark Wheel symbolizing time and life, also has pictures of dancers, gods, and floral designs reminding the world of the intricate details associated with Odisha as a sculpture-rich pilgrimage. 

With these meaningful gifts, PM Modi took cultural heritage and craftsmanship from Odisha to a worldwide audience.
