PM Modi Takes Tough Stand on Terrorism at SCO Meet in Bishkek | ‘No Double Standards’

Prime Minister Modi demands dismantling of global terror networks

Prime Minister Narendra Modi issued a firm warning against terrorism during an SCO roundtable discussion in Bishkek on Tuesday. Addressing a high-level gathering that included Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, he demanded the total destruction of global terror ecosystems. He explicitly stressed that participating nations must not harbour double standards on such serious security threats.

Targeting State Sponsored Violence

Speaking clearly to the gathered officials, PM Modi stated that countries using terrorism as a policy tool must receive a strict rebuke. He noted that sheltering and supporting extremists cannot serve as a strategic asset for any government. This firm stance aligns with India’s long-standing diplomatic efforts to isolate state sponsors of cross-border violence on various international platforms.

Leaders from across the region attended this critical dialogue. Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian participated closely in the talks. Other notable attendees included the leaders of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan, representing a broad coalition of regional power.

Diplomatic Engagements and Official Meetings

Before entering the serious discussions, heads of state gathered for their traditional official group photograph. Modi utilised this brief moment to exchange quick pleasantries with Xi and Putin. Moving beyond the main negotiation room, he also conducted separate bilateral meetings with Pezeshkian and Putin during the two-day event to discuss mutual interests.
