The emergency CCS meeting came a day after the heinous attack on tourists in the scenic Pahalgam region. Attending the meeting were Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.

Earlier in the day, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh strongly condemned the attack, expressing grief over the loss of innocent lives. Addressing an event, Singh reaffirmed the government’s unwavering stance against terrorism. “We have adopted a policy of zero tolerance towards terrorism,” he said. “I want to assure the nation that we will track down not only the attackers but also those orchestrating from behind the scenes. They will face a decisive and loud response.”

He added, “This cowardly act has claimed many innocent lives, and we are deeply anguished. I offer my heartfelt condolences to the families affected.”

Singh also held a separate meeting with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Air Force Chief Marshal AP Singh, and other senior security officials to assess the overall security situation in Jammu and Kashmir.

Meanwhile, Home Minister Amit Shah, who was in Srinagar earlier in the day, conducted a security review meeting and visited the Baisaran meadow—the site of the terror attack. A National Investigation Agency (NIA) team also inspected the area to assist the Jammu and Kashmir Police with the ongoing investigation.

In response to the attack, security forces have launched extensive search operations, and security measures across the region have been intensified.
