Bastar (Chhattisgarh), November 8: Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated Diwali on Sunday with security personnel deployed in anti-Naxal operations in Bastar, Chhattisgarh, highlighting the region's transformation from a Naxal stronghold to an area witnessing renewed development.

During his visit to the CoBRA Operations Base at Karanpur, Modi paid floral tributes to CRPF personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty at the camp's memorial.

Security personnel danced to traditional tribal songs alongside the Prime Minister. The camp echoed with chants of "Bharat Mata Ki Jai" as troops celebrated the festival of lights with him.

Addressing the personnel, Modi described Diwali 2026 as particularly special, saying it was the first Diwali since the country overcame decades of Naxalism and Maoist violence. He said every district was now free from Naxalism and millions of people had overcome the fear associated with the insurgency.

The Prime Minister said he had chosen to celebrate Diwali with security personnel because those protecting the nation, both at the borders and within the country, were members of his extended family.

"This time, I have come to celebrate Diwali in the forests of Bastar, a region once affected by Naxalism. Your sacrifices and dedication have helped end this menace and opened a new chapter of development," he said.

The CRPF has played a key role in anti-Naxal operations across Bastar, where insurgency had long hindered development. With security conditions improving, sectors such as education, healthcare, roads, electricity, communication, tourism and employment are expected to receive fresh impetus.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has also played a leading role in the Centre's efforts to eliminate Naxalism across the country.
