Cuttack, March 18: While a dreaded fire mishap in the SCB Medical College & Hospital claimed at least 12 lives on Tuesday, another electrical fire here sparked alarm on the campus today.

The fire reportedly triggered from an electric board in the non-trauma Casualty Unit of the hospital today that was rightly controlled by fire services personnel.

According to sources, the incident took place in the afternoon while the Non-Trauma Casualty Unit was almost crowded with patients and attendants.

According to some onlookers, the incident originated from an electrical board, which caught fire supposedly following a short circuit. People began scampering from the premises as smoke billowed from the junction.

On being aware of it, the hospital authorities informed the fire services regarding the incident. Firefighters rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control before it could escalate into a serious disaster.

According to some bystanders, another mishap could be averted as the fire tenders swung into action within no time.

Neither the police nor the hospital authorities have formally commented on the matter so far.
