Bhubaneswar, November 23: While a possible cyclone is looming over the Bay of Bengal, the IMD has already traced out a well-marked & intensified low-pressure area over the sea.

Underlining the possible Cyclonic System over the southwestern BoB, Director Centre for Environment & Climate (CEC) of SOA University Dr. Sarat Chandra Sahu said that the system will have no substantial impact on Odisha.

Dr. Sahu also said that, the climatological data analysed so far indicates, no cyclone after November 15 is likely to brew over the BoB that will wreak devastation in Odisha.

Dr. Sahu said, as per the predictions the low pressure system is expected to further intensify into a depression by November 24 and could turn into a cyclonic storm over the southwestern Bay of Bengal. However, the system will have no disastrous effect on coastal Odisha.

Citing the general trend & previously formed cyclonic systems, Dr. Sahu said, such adverse systems during the winter as such move towards Tamil Nadu or south Andhra Pradesh.Odisha experiences low to mid rainfall if the unexpected cyclonic system tends northwards.

“With the low pressure formed yet and is intensifying gradually, we may simply predict dry spell till November 30 along the coastal Odisha and its adjoining areas”, Dr. Sahu added.
