Bhubaneswar, Oct. 18: A pinch of vermilion remained a dream for Odisha’s Sprint Queen Dutee Chand and her fiancé Monalisa to come true after the landmark verdict, pronounced by the Apex Court on Tuesday.

Formal marriage of the lovebirds, Dutee, and her girlfriend Monalisa on a traditionally approved marriage altar or before the Registrar’s Court, is a bit impossible now as the Supreme Court has passed orders not to legalize Homosexual Marriage in India.

Dutee, after the Apex Court’s historical verdict, vowed to continue her live-in relationship with her fiancé Monalisa. Apart from it, she also hoped to marry her same-sex fiancé in due course of time. However, she said that the recent rulings have disrupted her marriage plans.

“I had a grand plan for our marriage ceremony, after the Supreme Court struck down Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code, decriminalising same-sex relations between consenting adults in 2018. Subsequently, I made my personal affairs public and fascinated my beloved girl Monalisha for a live-in relationship.”

An ace Indian athlete, Dutee expressed her desire to adopt a same-sex relationship in 2019 following the moral and constitutional support from the Parliament, She had been living together with Monalisa as married partners since last five years. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court’s rulings have left the unmarried couple in an unsolvable fuss whereas the future roadmaps of the duo are yet uncertain.
