Puri, Sept 19: A fresh controversy has erupted after yet another photograph from inside the Shree Jagannath Temple (Shree Mandir) in Puri went viral on social media. The image, reportedly shared by a youth named Shubhranshu, has sparked outrage and renewed concerns over repeated security breaches at the sacred site.
This is not an isolated incident. On September 4, a devotee from Maharashtra, Vaibhav Dure Patil, allegedly climbed onto the rooftop within the temple premises and took photographs, which he later posted on Instagram. Earlier this year, on February 7, another photo taken near the temple’s inner enclosure had also surfaced online.
The issue has been ongoing for years. In 2022, visuals from inside the Garbhagriha (sanctum sanctorum) of the temple were leaked and widely circulated on social media. That particular footage was reportedly captured using a professional camera, triggering widespread criticism and raising serious concerns about internal security.
Despite strict restrictions on carrying mobile phones or cameras into the temple, such incidents continue to occur. The repeated breaches have raised key questions:
How are individuals managing to enter with prohibited electronic devices?
Why are existing security measures failing to prevent such lapses?
Authorities are once again under pressure to explain how these violations continue to take place in one of the country’s most revered and tightly guarded temples. Devotees and concerned citizens alike are demanding stricter enforcement and accountability to preserve the sanctity of the holy site.
