Jharsuguda, Feb 21: A shocking incident has been reported from the Brajarajnagar area of Jharsuguda district, where a couple allegedly died due to excessive alcohol consumption. The husband, who was rescued in a critical condition four days after being found with his wife’s body, later succumbed while being taken to hospital.

The incident took place at Hanuman Mandir Pada under the jurisdiction of Orient Police Station in Brajarajnagar.

According to sources, the deceased have been identified as Gobinda Bhoi and his wife Rukmini Bhoi. Suspicion arose after the door of their house remained closed for several days and a foul smell began emanating from inside. Local residents alerted Gobinda’s relatives, who rushed to the spot and knocked on the door.

When Gobinda eventually opened the door, his wife was found lying dead inside the house. The stench from the decomposed body was reportedly unbearable. Gobinda was found in a critical condition and was immediately rescued and taken to hospital. However, he died on the way.

Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of death.
