New Delhi, Aug 16: What is common Neeraj Chopra to Sumit Antil?
Well, they both won javelin Gold medals for India in Tokyo. While Neeraj won in Tokyo Olympics, Sumit too clinched Gold in Tokyo Paralympics.
After Neeraj became India's flag-bearer during the inaugural ceremony of Paris Games 2024 recently, Sumit has been named to do the same honour for Paris Paralympics 2024.
Apart from Sumit, woman shot-put star Bhagyashri Jadhav has also been named India's flag-bearer for Paris Paralympics 2024 opening ceremony.
The 2024 Paralympic Games will be hosted in Paris from August 28 to September 8, at the same venues where the 2024 Olympics events were hosted.
As far as size of the Indian contingent, India will be represented by 84 athletes. It is India's largest-ever contingent, a significant increase from the 54, who competed in Tokyo.
Sumit Antil, the 25-year-old is the world record holder in men's javelin (F64).
Similarly, Bhagyashri won a Silver medal in the shot put F34 category at the 2022 Asian Para Games and finished seventh at the Tokyo Paralympics. She also won silver in Women's Shot Put F34 at the Para-Athletics World Championships in May this year.
It can be recalled that ace para-shuttler from Odisha Pramod Bhagat, who won a Gold medal in Tokyo Paralympics, has been suspended for lack of whereabouts details and will miss action in Paris.
