Berhampur, Dec 21: Odisha Police on Sunday busted a well-organised mule account racket and arrested four brokers for allegedly opening multiple bank accounts in the names of unsuspecting individuals by offering them cash incentives.

These accounts were reportedly used to aid cybercriminal activities.

The arrested accused have been identified as Pabitra Pradhan (25), Anil Kumar Patra (24), Gagan Dalai (25), and Shankarshana Sahu (23), all residents of Ganjam district.

According to police, Pradhan acted as the main agent in opening the mule accounts, while the remaining three operated as sub-agents.

Police seized five mobile phones, two bank passbooks, Aadhaar cards, and one ATM card from their possession.

Police said that several others may be involved in the racket and further investigation is underway to identify and arrest them.

Investigators suspect that the racket was being operated by a main accused based in New Delhi, who coordinated the operation by appointing local agents to open mule accounts.
