Over 74,000 pilgrims performed Amarnath Yatra so far, new batch of 5,725 departs today

Jammu, Jul 3: Over 74,000 pilgrims have so far performed the Amarnath Yatra since it started on June 29 while another batch of 5,725 devotees left for Kashmir in two escorted convoys on Wednesday.
As per reports, another batch of 5,725 Yatris departed from Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in two escorted convoys today morning. Of these, 2,514 Yatris traveled in a convoy of 118 vehicles to the north Kashmir Baltal base camp, while 3,211 Yatris left in 120 vehicles escorted by security forces for the south Kashmir Nunwan (Pahalgam) base camp.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological (MeT) department has forecast generally cloudy weather on both Yatra routes, with the possibility of light rain or thunder in the morning hours.
It is worth mentioning that over 124 'langars’ (community kitchens) have been set up along both routes, as well as at the transit camps and the cave shrine. More than 7,000 ‘Sevadars’ (Volunteers) are serving the Yatris during this year’s Yatra.
To manage the rush of Yatris, the Railways have decided to add additional trains starting from July 3. Helicopter services are also available for the Yatris on both routes.
Notably, Yatris take either the 48 km long traditional Pahalgam cave shrine route or the shorter 14 km long Baltal route to perform the Yatra. Those using the Pahalgam route take four days to reach the cave shrine, while those taking the Baltal route return to the base camp the same day after having ‘darshan’ inside the cave shrine.
