New Delhi, Jan 10: Over 150 flights and about 26 trains were delayed owing to reduced visibility as dense fog engulfed parts of the Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR) on Friday.
As per reports, dense fog reduced visibility to zero resulting in delay of more than 150 flights for an average 41 minutes and about 26 trains.
The Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) provided an update on the situation and announced on Friday morning that flight departures were "impacted" due to dense fog. However, DIAL assured the passengers that CAT III-compliant flights were still able to land and depart from the airport.
On the other hand, vehicles in parts of Delhi-NCR were moving slowly due to poor visibility today morning. Most of the drivers turned on their hazard lights to stay visible and avoid accidents.
Notably, the Air Quality Index (AQI) in the national capital was recorded at 408 around 6 a.m. It reached the 'severe' category, according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board website.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted moderate to very dense fog in many parts of North India, including Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan. In the past few weeks, hundreds of flights and trains have been canceled or delayed due to dense fog.
