New Delhi, June 3: In a show of unity, leaders from 16 opposition parties have jointly written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, demanding a special session of Parliament to discuss Operation Sindoor. The letter comes in the wake of a meeting convened by the INDIA bloc in the national capital on Tuesday to deliberate on the matter.
Senior leaders from key opposition outfits—including the Congress, Trinamool Congress (TMC), Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Samajwadi Party (SP), and Shiv Sena (UBT)—participated in the meeting. Congress leaders Jairam Ramesh and Deepender Hooda, TMC's Derek O'Brien, SP’s Ramgopal Yadav, RJD’s Manoj Jha, and Shiv Sena’s Sanjay Raut were among those present.
Though the DMK could not attend due to Karunanidhi's birth anniversary observances, it is among the parties that endorsed the letter to the Prime Minister.
Other signatories include the National Conference, CPI(M), IUML, CPI, Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP), Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), Kerala Congress, MDMK, and CPI(ML) Liberation.
While the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) did not participate in the meeting, opposition leaders confirmed that the party intends to send a separate letter to the PM echoing the demand. The Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction), however, is not part of the initiative.
The call for a special session follows the Pahalgam terror attack and was earlier raised at an all-party briefing held to update lawmakers on Operation Sindoor. Trinamool Congress has proposed that the session be scheduled for June, once multi-party delegations, currently abroad to articulate India’s stance on terrorism, return to the country.
