India Mounts Global Diplomatic Campaign post 'Operation Sindoor'
In the aftermath of "Operation Sindoor"—India's retaliatory strikes against alleged terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK)—and subsequent cross-border military exchanges, New Delhi has launched a significant global diplomatic initiative. Over 200 Indian missions worldwide are actively engaging with host governments and international media to articulate India's position, justify its actions, and counter potential misinformation from Pakistan.
Senior Diplomats Lead Public Engagement
Indian envoys in key global capitals have been at the forefront of this diplomatic push. Vikram Doraiswami, India's High Commissioner to the UK, speaking to Sky News, highlighted evidence of alleged Pakistani state support for proscribed terrorists, including state funerals. He asserted that India's response was "proportional" and "precise," aimed at terror infrastructure, and that the original escalation was the April 22nd Pahalgam attack which killed 26 civilians. Doraiswami emphasized that the international community should urge Pakistan to take the "off-ramp" from supporting terrorism.
Similarly, Vinay Kwatra, India's Ambassador to the US, told CNN that India is "at war with terrorism and terrorists backed by Pakistan." He reiterated that "Operation Sindoor" targeted "terror factories" responsible for the Pahalgam killings and that Pakistan's subsequent military actions indicated its alignment with these terrorist entities.
Countering Narratives
The core objective of this extensive diplomatic outreach is to garner international understanding and support for India's stance on cross-border terrorism. Indian officials are actively briefing their counterparts to counter any false narratives emerging from Pakistan and to maintain what New Delhi perceives as its upper hand in the situation. This diplomatic engagement is also reportedly timed ahead of a crucial International Monetary Fund (IMF) meeting concerning further funding for Pakistan. India is said to be preparing a fresh dossier of "actionable evidence" for the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), aiming to push for Pakistan's re-listing on the 'grey list,' which could impact its access to international financial aid.
India's diplomatic campaign serves as a critical complement to its recent military actions. By actively engaging the international community, New Delhi seeks to shape global perception of the events, underscore its justification for "Operation Sindoor" as a targeted response to terrorism, and exert pressure on Pakistan to dismantle alleged terror networks operating from its soil.
