India Evacuates More Citizens amid Iran Conflict
As military tensions escalate between Iran, Israel, and the United States, India is actively carrying out a mission to ensure the safe return of its citizens from the region. Under its "Operation Sindhu," the Indian government facilitated the evacuation of another 292 nationals, who arrived in New Delhi early Tuesday morning.
The Ministry of External Affairs confirmed the arrival of the special flight from Mashhad, Iran. This latest group brings the total number of Indians evacuated from the conflict zone to 2,295. The ongoing operation highlights a dedicated effort to protect citizens caught in the rapidly deteriorating security situation. The evacuees, relieved to be home, expressed their gratitude for the government's swift action.
Baljinder Kaur, a Hindi teacher who lived in Iran for 21 years, noted the recent shift in the situation. "It is a matter of pride that whenever the country or its citizens face difficulty, the Government stands with them," she said. Another evacuee, Ziva Jaffrey from Nagpur, shared her relief after a previously scheduled flight was canceled, stating, "We were anxious, but coming here has put us at ease."
The evacuation was prompted by a sharp increase in military hostilities. The conflict ignited on June 13 when Israel launched significant airstrikes on Iranian military and nuclear targets in an action codenamed "Operation Rising Lion." Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps retaliated with a large-scale drone and missile assault, dubbed "Operation True Promise 3," aimed at Israeli infrastructure.
The situation intensified further when the United States conducted precision airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear sites early Sunday in what it called "Operation Midnight Hammer." In a direct response, Iran targeted U.S. military installations in Qatar and Iraq, including the major Al Udeid Air Base.
This series of military exchanges has created a volatile and dangerous environment, making missions like Operation Sindhu critical. Through these coordinated efforts, India continues to demonstrate its commitment to safeguarding its people abroad during times of international crisis.
