Bhubaneswar, October 6: In a major citizen-centric initiative, Jajpur Police has returned 200 stolen and missing mobile phones to their rightful owners under its special drive,“Operation Reconnect.”
The recovered mobile phones were formally handed over to the owners by Dr. Satyajit Naik, Inspector General of Police, Central Range, Cuttack, in the presence of Yash Pratap Shrimal, Superintendent of Police, Jajpur, and other senior police officers.
As part of the initiative,100 mobile phones were recovered and returned to their owners in March 2026, while another 100 phones have now been handed back, taking the total number of recovered devices to 200.
The initiative is aimed at making police services more responsive to citizens and strengthening technology-driven investigation into complaints involving lost and stolen mobile phones. Police personnel employed systematic technical tracing mechanisms to locate the missing devices, followed by detailed verification to establish the ownership of each phone before returning them to the respective complainants.
The recovery of the phones is expected to bring significant relief to the victims, as smartphones today contain important personal information, contacts, photographs, documents, and access to various digital services.
The operation involved a structured process beginning with the registration of complaints, followed by technical tracing, recovery of the devices, verification of ownership and their formal handover to the rightful owners.
Speaking on the occasion, IG Satyajit Naik said that such efforts would continue to make policing more citizen-friendly and encourage people to promptly report missing or stolen mobile phones so that timely action could be taken for their recovery.
The initiative also highlights the growing role of technology in modern policing, particularly in tracing and recovering lost or stolen digital devices.
Jajpur Police described the achievement as“200 phones, 200 reconnections and countless smiles,”underscoring the human impact of returning valuable personal property to citizens.
