Berhampur, Jan 31: Gopalpur Beach Festival stands as a vibrant celebration of history, tradition, culture and nature, showcasing the unique identity of Odisha and the cultural pride of Ganjam, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. Addressing the valedictory ceremony of the Gopalpur Beach Festival 2026 at Gopalpur, the Chief Minister said the festival transforms Odisha’s living heritage into a grand public celebration.

On the occasion, the Chief Minister inaugurated and laid foundation stones for a slew of developmental projects worth over ₹492 crore for the district. Of the total outlay, projects worth more than ₹50 crore were inaugurated, while foundation stones were laid for 64 projects valued at ₹442 crore. The initiatives span crucial sectors such as healthcare infrastructure, hostel facilities and road construction.

A key highlight among the projects is the development and beautification of Gopalpur beach, which will be carried out at an estimated cost of ₹32 crore, aimed at boosting tourism and enhancing public amenities.

Reiterating the state government’s commitment to the promotion of Odia literature and culture, the Chief Minister announced the revival of the prestigious ‘Upendra Bhanja Chair’ at Berhampur University. He directed the concerned department to take immediate steps to reactivate the chair, which had remained defunct for several years, as a tribute to the immense contribution of Kabi Samrat Upendra Bhanja to Odia literature.

The Chief Minister also announced that the birth anniversary of Upendra Bhanja will be observed as a state festival from this year. Beginning May 16, the celebrations will be held in the form of a seven-day-long festival across the state, he said.
