Srinagar, May 7: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah convened an emergency meeting on Wednesday to assess the escalating situation along the border regions.
He held a video conference with District Commissioners to review ground-level developments and coordinate response measures.
The meeting followed a high-level conference chaired earlier in the day by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who met with Chief Ministers and senior officials from multiple states, including Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, and Rajasthan. The Chief Ministers of Gujarat, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Sikkim, and West Bengal, as well as the Lieutenant Governors of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, also attended the meeting.
Home Minister Shah has been in continuous contact with Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and the Director General of the Border Security Force (BSF), instructing them to implement stringent security protocols for residents in sensitive border areas.
Lieutenant Governor Sinha conducted a separate review of the situation in border districts earlier this morning. He directed local authorities to take all necessary precautions and to relocate residents from vulnerable areas while ensuring the availability of essential services.
These developments come in the wake of Operation Sindoor, a retaliatory military strike carried out by the Indian Armed Forces early Wednesday morning. The operation targeted nine terror hideouts deep inside Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), following the recent deadly Pahalgam terror attack. All nine designated targets were successfully hit, according to official reports.
Expressing strong support for the operation, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah stated, “India had to respond to what happened in Pahalgam. Now, it is up to the neighbouring country to decide how far they wish to escalate this.”
