Balasore, June 30: Incessant rainfall in Balasore district has caused a sharp rise in the water levels of the Subarnarekha River, prompting authorities to issue a high alert.
The State Flood Cell under the Department of Water Resources has been monitoring the situation around the clock, keeping a close eye on the developing flood crisis.
Current River Levels & Danger Marks:
Subarnarekha River (at Rajghat): The water level has reached 10.36 meters, crossing the danger mark of 10.36 meters.
Jalaka River (at Mathani): The water level stands at 6.90 meters, surpassing its danger mark of 6.50 meters.
As a result of the flooding, more than 15 villages across five panchayats in Baliapal Block, including Baliapal, Madhupur, Asti, Bishnupur, and Jamakunda, have been severely impacted. Similarly, several villages in Basta Block and Jaleswar Block have also been affected, including areas like Choramara, Madhupura, Raghunathpur, Kadraaya, Khudia Majhisahi, Makidia, Almara, Dakshina Praharajpur, Srirampur, Paschimabad, Baigan Badia, Jhadapimpal, and Gadasahibaliapal.
District Collectors of Balasore and Mayurbhanj are on-site, overseeing evacuation and relief operations in at-risk areas. Additionally, the Engineer-in-Chief has arrived in Balasore to assess the flood situation and coordinate emergency response measures.
Residents in low-lying areas and those near riverbanks are urged to stay alert, take necessary precautions, and cooperate with authorities for evacuation or relief assistance.
Additionally, one fire service team and one ODRAF team have been deployed in Basta Block to assist in rescue operations. Authorities will continue to issue updates as the situation evolves.
