Bhubaneswar, Aug 25: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi today expressed optimism about the state’s aviation sector, stating it is poised for significant growth with strong support from the Central government.
This includes a flexible national aviation policy, financial backing for regional air routes, and technical collaboration for Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facilities and aviation training centres.
“With the Centre’s support through a flexible national policy, financial assistance for regional routes, and technical collaboration for MROs and training centers, Odisha’s aviation sector is poised for rapid growth,” the Chief Minister said.
Speaking at the Eastern Region Civil Aviation Ministers’ Conference held in Bhubaneswar, Majhi highlighted Odisha’s recent strides in the aviation space. The state now boasts three operational airports, nine UDAN routes, and its own dedicated Civil Aviation Policy—key developments that have enhanced regional connectivity.
Detailing recent progress, the Chief Minister noted that Jharsuguda has gained five additional flight services, while Bhubaneswar is currently connected to eight domestic cities and one international destination. Notably, 15 new destinations have been added in the past four months alone.
Majhi emphasized that plans to expand UDAN routes and develop new airports in Puri, Rourkela, and Paradip will further strengthen regional air connectivity.
“For us, aviation is about linking aspirations with opportunities and building highways of prosperity in the sky,” he remarked, underscoring the transformative role of aviation in Odisha’s development.
Calling the conference a vital step toward turning Eastern India into a dynamic hub for civil aviation, Majhi announced two major agreements. The first, an MoU with Air Works Pvt Ltd, will establish state-of-the-art MRO facilities in Odisha. The second involves initiatives for skill development in the aviation sector.
In addition, Letters of Intent were handed over to support human resource development programs, including pilot training specifically aimed at empowering tribal girls—reflecting the state’s commitment to inclusive growth.
Welcoming Union Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu Kinjarapu, Minister of State Muralidhar Mohol, and other dignitaries, Majhi described the event as a proud moment for Odisha.
“With the divine blessings of Mahaprabhu Shri Jagannath, our state—where rich traditions blend seamlessly with modern ambitions—remains dedicated to improving regional connectivity,” he said.
