Odisha: Yellow warning issued for 14 districts as thunderstorms; lightning and gusty winds expected

Bhubaneswar, Oct 3: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning for 14 districts of Odisha, forecasting thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind till October 8.

As per the evening weather bulletin issued by the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of up to 30-40 kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places over nine districts during October 6-7. The yellow warning is valid for Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Sundargarh, Kendujhar and Mayurbhanj.

The weather activity is expected to expand further on October 7, with the IMD forecasting thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds over 14 districts. The warning will cover Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Kataka, Sundargarh, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha and Nayagarh.

Rainfall forecast

The IMD has forecast light to moderate rain or thundershowers at one or two places in several districts during the next few days, while dry weather is likely to prevail over the remaining districts.

On October 4, isolated rainfall is likely over Baleshwar, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Malkangiri and Koraput. On October 5, rainfall is likely over Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Sundargarh, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Rayagada and Koraput.

The weather system is expected to bring more widespread isolated rainfall activity on October 6 and 7, particularly over northern, coastal and southern parts of Odisha.

The IMD has also forecast light to moderate rain or thundershowers over Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Kendujhar and Mayurbhanj on October 8 and 9, while dry weather is likely over the rest of the state.

Weather in Bhubaneswar

For Bhubaneswar and its neighbouring areas, the IMD has forecast a partly cloudy sky over the next 24 hours. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to remain around 35 degrees Celsius and 26 degrees Celsius, respectively.

On October 3, Bhubaneswar recorded a maximum temperature of 35.2 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 26 degrees Celsius, with no rainfall recorded between 8:30 AM and 5:30 PM.

The IMD has advised people to remain alert during thunderstorms and lightning activity and follow location-specific weather warnings issued through its official weather services.
