Odisha: Woman’s suicide bid with three daughters over husband’s extramarital affair

Cuttack, Aug 21: In a shocking incident reported from Nischintakoili area of Odisha’s Cuttack district on Thursday, a woman attempted to commit suicide along with her three daughters by setting ablaze over her husband’s alleged extramarital affair.
As per reports, the incident took place in Baliapada village under Nischintakoili police limits when the woman was attempting to end her life as well as kill her three daughters by pouring kerosene and setting ablaze.
Fortunately, some local villagers intervened, stopping them and alerting the police. Upon receiving the information, Nishchintakoili police arrived at the scene and successfully rescued them.
Sources said that the woman, identified as Jharana, was suspecting her husband Shantanu Mallik, who works for a domestic company in Hyderabad, of having an illicit relationship with a local woman in their village.
Unable to tolerate the ordeal, Jharana attempted to commit suicide and kill her three daughters Lakshmipriya, Supriya, and Sumitra this morning.
Further investigation into the matter is underway.
