Ganjam, September 20: Odisha Vigilance sleuths have apprehended an Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) Supervisor and a Junior Revenue Assistant (JRA) for reportedly demanding and taking bribe of Rs 30,000 from a Anganwadi worker in Ganjam district late last evening.
The accused duo has been identified as B. Uma Patro, ICDS Supervisor and Narasingha Behera, Junior Revenue Assistant, posted at the Hinjilikatu Child Development Protection Office (CDPO) in Ganjam district.
It was alleged that the duo was demanding bribe from an Anganwadi worker in lieu of release of the house rent of the Anganwadi Centre for last 11 months.
According to a Vigilance statement, both Patro and Behera told the Anganwadi Worker that if the later fails to pay bribe of Rs 30,000, the former would block the release of house rent of the Anganwadi Centre for coming months too.
Unable to meet the demand of the Government officials, the Anganwadi Worker reported the matter to Vigilance authorities.
Accordingly, a trap was laid late on Saturday evening and a team of Odisha Vigilance caught both the ICDS Supervisor and Junior Revenue Assistant red-handed while they were taking the bribe of Rs 30,000 from the complainant inside the office premises of CDPO. The entire tainted bribe money Rs 30,000 has been recovered from their possession and seized.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches underway in several locations of the two officials to investigate possible possession of disproportionate assets.
A case has also been registered against the two officials at Brahampur Vigilance police station under P. C. (Amendment) Act, 2018. Further investigation underway.
