Jajpur, September 28: Odisha Vigilance on Monday arrested an Assistant Engineer and her aide on charges of taking bribe of Rs 35,000 in Jajpur district.
The arrested accused have been identified as Bandita Dash, Assistant Engineer (AE) of Badachana block in Jajpur district and her associate Somonath Sethy, a private person.
It was alleged that they have been demanding a bribe of Rs 35,000 to release security deposit and for clearing pending bills.
According to Vigilance, the complainant, who was tasked with the construction works of a school in Badachana Block, had submitted the bills for payment. When the victim asked for release of security deposit and for clearing the pending bills, accused Dash demanded bribe Rs 35,000 to refund security deposit as well as for clearing pending bills.
Upset over the illegal approach of a government official, the complainant reported the matter to vigilance authorities alleging harassment by the woman Assistant Engineer.
Accordingly, a trap was laid and a team of Odisha Vigilance nabbed both Dash and her associate Sethy, a private person, while taking bribe of Rs 35,000 from the complainant. The entire bribe amount of Rs 35,000 has been recovered from their possession and seized.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches underway at three locations linked to Dash to investigate possible disproportionate assets.
A case has been filed against Dash and Sethy at the Kataka Vigilance police station under PC (Amendment) Act, 2018.
