Bhubaneswar, Nov 11: A woman passenger from Odisha’s Kendrapada district was charred alive after the bus she was travelling caught fire on the National Highway near Kharagpur in West Bengal last night.
The deceased woman has been identified as Pushpanjali Das of Nolia village under Marshaghai police limits of the district. Pushpanjali was travelling home with husband and son when the Paradeep bound bus caught fire.
However, though the exact cause of the fire mishap is yet to be ascertained, the primary investigation revealed that the bus was carrying explosive materials.
According to the information, over 30 passengers were travelling in the bus out of which 16 passengers are from Kendrapada and two from Paradeep. The bus had left for Paradeep from Babughat of Kolkata last night. All the injured have been admitted to Medinapur Medical College & Hospital and Kharagpur Hospital.
Some injured passengers from Odisha have been brought to the state and their condition is stated to be not critical.
