Angul, Aug 19: Odisha Vigilance on Monday arrested Surendra Behera, Superintending Engineer of the Irrigation Division in Angul, for allegedly possessing disproportionate assets. He will be produced before the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Sundargarh today.
The arrest followed extensive searches on Behera’s properties, during which officials unearthed assets far exceeding his known sources of income. The seizure included two multi-storeyed buildings, two flats in Bhubaneswar, four high-value plots, cash amounting to ₹2.33 lakh, and bank deposits worth approximately ₹54 lakh, among other holdings.
Behera reportedly failed to provide satisfactory explanations for the assets in his possession. Consequently, Rourkela Vigilance Police Station registered Case No. 9/2025 against him under relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.Further investigation into the matter is underway.
