Deogarh, Feb 14: Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Friday arrested a junior clerk at Deogarh College for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a former student.
The accused peon has been identified as Manjula Pradhan.
As per reports, the complainant had damaged his Plus II certificate and wanted a fresh original certificate. However, Pradhan demanded the aforementioned bribe amount in exchange for issuing the certificate.
Following this, he reached out to the anti-corruption agency and filed a complaint. Acting on it, the Vigilance sleuths laid a trap and caught Pradhan red-handed while he accepting the bribe of Rs 10,000.
The officials recovered the entire bribe amount from his possession and seized it.
Following the arrest, Vigilance officials launched simultaneous searches at two locations connected to Pradhan to probe the disproportionate assets angle.
A case has been filed at Rourkela Vigilance Police Station (Case No. 03, dated 13-02-25) under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.
The investigation into the matter is underway.
