Bhubaneswar, June 12: Celebrating two years of his government in office, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday announced to provide free education from Kindergarten (KG) to Postgraduate (PG) level across the state.
Speaking at a press conference, Majhi said the initiative is aimed at reducing the financial burden on students and their families, particularly those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
He stated that the programme would ensure that financial hardships do not prevent deserving students from pursuing higher education.
“The government has decided to introduce fee-free education from KG to PG. This will significantly benefit students, especially those from underprivileged families, and help ease the financial pressure on households,” the Chief Minister said.
He further claimed that Odisha would become the first state in India to implement such a comprehensive free education policy.
Reflecting on his administration’s performance since taking office on June 12, 2024, Majhi described the government as a “people-centric administration” working in close partnership with citizens under the Centre-State “double-engine” governance model.
He highlighted the implementation of 121 welfare and development schemes over the past two years, aimed at building a prosperous and inclusive Odisha.
Defending his government’s law and order record, the Chief Minister challenged critics to identify a single case in which offenders had not been apprehended.
Majhi also highlighted achievements in key sectors, including women’s empowerment, agriculture, healthcare, and industrial development.
On the economic front, he said Odisha has attracted investment proposals worth more than Rs 20 lakh crore, reflecting growing investor confidence and the state’s emergence as a preferred destination for industry.
He also pointed to enhanced support measures for farmers, the empowerment of more than one crore women through initiatives such as the Subhadra Yojana, and the creation of numerous “Lakhpati Didis” as notable accomplishments of his government.
