Odisha: STA Launches Statewide Crackdown on Vehicles Without Valid Documents, 56 Seized in Cuttack

Bhubaneswar, July 9: The State Transport Authority (STA) has launched a special enforcement drive across Odisha to crack down on vehicles operating without valid fitness certificates, insurance, and permits. As part of the ongoing campaign, intensive inspections are being conducted across Cuttack and several other districts.

According to transport officials, the Cuttack Regional Transport Office (RTO) has seized 56 vehicles during the drive so far. The seized vehicles include auto-rickshaws, tractors, motorcycles, and goods carriers. Both commercial and private vehicles are being subjected to thorough document verification.

Officials said vehicles found violating fitness and documentation norms are being seized on the spot. The Transport Department stated that the objective of the drive is to identify and remove unfit vehicles operating on roads without mandatory documents, thereby enhancing road safety.

Apart from Cuttack, similar enforcement drives are underway in Puri, Talcher, Bhubaneswar, Nuapada, Balasore, and Jagatsinghpur. Action is being taken against violators under the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.

STA officials said a zero-tolerance approach is being adopted against habitual offenders, with enforcement teams directed to seize vehicles repeatedly found violating transport regulations. They warned that repeated offences would be treated as serious breaches of road safety compliance.

Meanwhile, data collected from major toll plazas during the drive revealed a significant number of violations. Bandalo and Manguli toll plazas recorded the highest number of detections at 5,281, followed by Pipili with 4,816 violations. Sergarh reported 3,769 cases, while Gudipada and Gangapada together accounted for 2,807 violations.
