Jagatsinghpur, July 25: In a shocking incident reported from Kujang block of Odisha's Jagatsinghpur district on Thursday, a 15 year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by two elderly brothers.
Based on a complaint filed by the victim’s family, police arrested the accused duo, whose identities have not been disclosed yet, last night and began interrogating them.
As per reports, the elderly brothers worked as a cook and a priest at the village mutt (monastery). The girl, who lived nearby and often visited the place, was familiar to them. They allegedly took advantage of her innocence and gang-raped her.
The incident came to light after the minor was found to be six months pregnant. Initially, the victim remained quiet and shared her ordeal when her health deteriorated and her pregnancy was detected.
After learning about it, her parents reported the matter to the police. They alleged that the two brothers not only raped their minor daughter, but also offered them money to stay silent and abort the pregnancy.
They said the brothers threatened them with serious consequences if they didn’t agree.
An official source said the accused brothers will be presented in court today.
Another person, who is said to have forced the victim’s father to settle the matter and threatened to harm the girl if the family spoke out, has also been detained for questioning after being named in the family’s complaint, officials added.
It is worth noting that the shameful incident comes barely two days after an 18 year-old girl was gang-raped by two youths while returning from a friend's birthday party Chandagarh area of the district on Monday night.
