Korei, Dec 15: In a shocking incident, the body of a first-year student was found hanging inside the bathroom of the Government Polytechnic College hostel in Ragadi, under the jurisdiction of Korei Police Station in Odisha's Jajpur district.

The student, identified as Shubhankar Acharya, was enrolled in the Metallurgical Engineering department. While the cause of death remains uncertain, his family has raised serious allegations of foul play, claiming he was murdered.

Shubhankar, a resident of Keshudura Pal in the Ghasipura area of Keonjhar district, was found hanging from a shower pipe with a towel. This was made by fellow hostel inmates, who immediately alerted the authorities.

Upon receiving the distress call, Korei police rushed to the scene, recovered the body, and sent it for a post-mortem examination. An investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances surrounding the student's death.

A scientific team was also deployed to collect forensic evidence from the scene and assist in the investigation.

Speaking to the media, Nirupama Acharya, Shubhankar’s mother, alleged that her son was murdered. “My son was killed. We were in regular contact, and he had no issues. I had sent money to the college, but they haven't issued a receipt. Despite the incident happening late last night, the college never informed us. We only found out around 3 PM from others. Later, his uncle contacted a lecturer for details,” she said. “He had told us that his exams were ongoing and that he would return home after they ended on December 24. I want strict action to be taken.”

The tragic incident has caused widespread outrage, with students and local residents gathering at the hostel premises, demanding justice. The situation escalated, and Korei police had to step in to manage the crowd and maintain order.

This sad event has left the college community in mourning and has raised serious concerns about the safety and well-being of students living in hostels. The investigation is underway, with authorities working to uncover the truth behind the student’s untimely death.
