Odisha rain and flood update: Heavy rain likely in parts till 13th, No flood threat in Mahanadi

Bhubanesswar, Sept 8: Odisha is expected to receive rainfall till September 13, with heavy showers likely in some regions due to a cyclonic circulation over the northwestern and west-central Bay of Bengal, the IMD reported.

On September 8, districts like Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, and Gajapati are set to receive heavy rainfall. Thunderstorms are likely in parts of interior and coastal Odisha. Light to moderate rain is expected on the 9th and scattered showers on the 10th in southern districts. Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar may witness heavy to very heavy rain on the 11th. Southern districts could see more rain on the 12th and 13th.

Meanwhile, the water level at Naraj on the Mahanadi River remains below the danger mark (25.99m against the danger level of 26.41m). Around 6.2 lakh cusecs of water is flowing through Mundali, but the level is receding. Hirakud Dam's water level stands at 626.62 feet, with water being discharged through four gates.

Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari confirmed there is no flood threat, as discharge remains well below the 10 lakh cusecs mark. The Water Resources Department and district administrations remain on alert to handle any emergency.
