Bhubaneswar, July 23:  Even after four days have passed since a horrific attack on a 15-year-old girl in Odisha’s Puri district, the state police remain in the dark about the identity and whereabouts of the perpetrators.

The gruesome incident, which has sparked outrage across the state, occurred on July 19 when three unidentified miscreants allegedly set the minor girl ablaze under mysterious circumstances.

According to police sources, investigators are still struggling to gather concrete leads in the case. So far, no arrests have been made, and the motive behind the brutal act remains unclear.

In a bid to gather critical information, the Odisha Police have reached out to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, where the victim is currently undergoing treatment. Officials have gathered some crucial details that might help crack the case.

The victim, who suffered 75 percent burn injuries, was initially admitted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar immediately after the incident. However, due to the severity of her condition, she was airlifted to AIIMS Delhi on July 20 for advanced medical care. She is currently being treated at the Department of Burns and Plastic Surgery. As of Wednesday evening, her condition remains critical.

The heinous nature of the crime has led to widespread concern, with many demanding swift justice and enhanced safety measures for women and girls. However, the lack of progress in the investigation has raised questions about the efficiency of the police response.

Senior police officials have assured that every possible effort is being made to identify and apprehend the culprits. Forensic teams have been deployed, and CCTV footage from nearby areas is being scrutinized. The police have also appealed to the public to come forward with any information that might aid the investigation.

As the girl continues her battle for life in the intensive care unit, her family and the wider community await justice and accountability for the unspeakable act that has left the state shaken.
