Hyderabad, October 11: A Detective Inspector attached to Saidabad Police Station has been arrested and remanded to judicial custody at Chanchalguda Prison for allegedly sexually exploiting a woman on the false promise of marriage, police said.

A case was registered against the inspector, identified as Balaswamy, at Saidabad Police Station on October 9, following a complaint by a woman who alleged that he had maintained a relationship with her for several years by repeatedly assuring her of marriage.

According to the FIR, the woman first met Balaswamy in December 2016, when he was serving as an administrative Sub-Inspector at Chandrayangutta Police Station. She had approached the station seeking the implementation of a court order.

The complainant alleged that Balaswamy subsequently began contacting her frequently and proposed marriage in January 2017. He reportedly assured her that he would marry her after resolving certain personal issues, including the marriage of his disabled sister.

In March 2017, Balaswamy allegedly visited her residence and established physical relations with her on the promise of marriage. The woman claimed that he continued to visit her and maintain the relationship over the following years.

She later allegedly discovered that Balaswamy was already married. According to the FIR, he told her that he was living separately from his wife and that divorce proceedings were in progress.

The complainant further alleged that when she stopped communicating with him, he threatened to harm himself, prompting her to resume contact after he renewed his assurance that he would marry her.

Following the death of her husband in May 2021, Balaswamy allegedly continued to promise marriage, the woman stated in her complaint. However, in 2024, she reportedly learnt through his relatives that he had brought his wife and children back to live with him in a newly constructed house.

When she confronted him, Balaswamy allegedly abused her and told her that he had no intention of marrying her. The woman further claimed that he later resumed contact, renewed his promise of marriage and continued the relationship.

According to the complaint, Balaswamy began distancing himself from her from January 2025, causing her severe mental distress. She stated that she subsequently sought psychiatric treatment.

Based on the complaint, Saidabad Police registered a case under Sections 69, 81, 351(2) and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police have initiated an investigation into the allegations.
