Bhubaneswar, Oct 26: In a major step towards strengthening security across the state, Odisha Police is planning to procure 10 anti-drone guns in the first phase to counter potential threats and prevent unauthorised drone operations.

The advanced equipment is expected to have a jamming range of up to two kilometres, enabling security personnel to detect suspicious drones and disrupt their control signals or communication links from a distance of up to two kilometres.

The anti-drone guns will primarily be deployed to enhance coastal security, safeguard key religious sites such as the Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri and the Konark Sun Temple, and secure the airspace during VIP visits and high-profile events.

According to reports, Odisha Police has already invited tenders for the procurement of the advanced equipment, and the necessary procedures are currently underway.

With the use of drones increasing for surveillance and other purposes, the move is aimed at strengthening the state's preparedness to deal with potential aerial security threats. The proposed acquisition is expected to enhance monitoring capabilities and improve security arrangements at sensitive locations across Odisha.
