Jagatsinghpur, Aug 8: In a shocking incident, a Sub-Inspector posted in Odisha’s Puri district has been suspended for allegedly torturing his minor wife.
The police official, identified as Amit Padhee, has been absconding for months since the complaint was lodged.
As per reports, Padhee, a native of Ratei village under Baliapal police limits in Balasore, had married a minor girl from the Jagatsinghpur Sadar police station area as per Hindu rituals following their relationship that had started through an online friendship on Facebook.
A few months after the marriage, the girl accused her husband and in-laws of physically and mentally abusing her. With no relief in sight, she returned to her parents' home in Jagatsinghpur and filed a complaint against them four months ago.
Following the allegations, the Home Department suspended Padhee from duty. However, he has not been arrested yet. Sources said a charge-sheet will be filed only after his arrest.
The victim and her family have voiced strong disappointment over the delay in action, alleging that the accused is avoiding arrest despite facing serious charges.
Further investigation into the matter is underway.
