Bhubaneswar, June 13: Odisha Works Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan on Thursday informed that the State Highways Authority aims to build 6,500 km of state highways and expressways during the 2025–26 financial year.

As part of the new plans, Odisha will get its first expressway, which will run between Berhampur and Jeypore.

Harichandan said this important road will make travel easier and boost the economy in South Odisha.

Speaking to the media in Cuttack, Minister Harichandan said that these projects will be named after famous people from the districts they are built in.

The minister said this plan is part of the state government's effort to strengthen local identity and honor well-known people from each district. By naming roads and projects after them, the government hopes to help people feel more connected to their roots.

“The Berhampur-Jeypore expressway will help speed up development in South Odisha,” he said.

He also mentioned that many more projects are being planned, and better roads are expected to boost the region’s social and economic growth.
