Sambalpur, Aug 13: A 29-year-old patient, who was being treated at Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences And Research (VIMSAR) in Odisha’s Burla following a suicide attempt, tried to take his own life again by jumping from the first floor of the hospital building on Wednesday.
The patient has been identified as Subir Sirdar, a resident of Bhatigaon under Bijepur police limits in Bargarh.
As per reports, Sirdar allegedly attempted to commit suicide by slitting his throat with a sharp weapon last night following which he was admitted to the Bargarh District Headquarters Hospital in critical condition. Later, he was shifted to VIMSAR in the early hours of Wednesday as his health condition deteriorated.
After receiving initial treatment at the casualty ward, Sirdar was shifted to the ENT department for further care. Doctors scheduled his surgery for around 11:30 am today and instructed him to wait outside the operation theatre.
However, he reportedly managed to slip away and jumped from the roof of the building. Hospital staff and bystanders quickly rescued him and rushed him back to the casualty ward for further treatment.
His condition is stated to be critical.
