
Jharsuguda, Sept 7: Panic gripped the residents of Railway Colony area in Odisha’s Jharsuguda after unidentified miscreants opened fire at a house early this morning.
According to police sources, assailants fired at least four rounds at the residence of local resident Dasharath Suna around dawn. The bullets hit the main door, causing panic in the area.
Fortunately, the family inside managed to escape unharmed, and no casualties were reported.
Eyewitnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots before the attackers fled the scene under the cover of darkness.
Upon getting the information, Jharsuguda police quickly arrived at the scene and took stock of the situation.
The Superintendent of Police (SP) personally examined the site, and a forensic team collected four empty cartridges from the area.
Though the exact motive behind the shooting is yet to be ascertained, complainant Sushant Suna alleged that he had an altercation with a couple of men the previous night. He claimed that the same individuals returned in the early hours of the following day and opened fire on his house.
Ramesh Chandra Das, the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) at Jharsuguda Railway Police, stated that although there is no known past enmity, the incident might be linked to a dispute that occurred during a procession.
He confirmed that no one was injured in the attack. The altercation took place around 10:30 PM, while the shooting occurred approximately four hours later at around 2:30 AM.
An investigation is underway to identify and apprehend the culprits, said the police.
