Odisha on high alert over Ebola Virus threat

Bhubaneswar, May 29: The Odisha government has gone on high alert over the potential threat of the Ebola Virus Disease following directives from the Union Health Ministry. Preparations have been intensified across the state to handle any suspected cases.

Director of Public Health Rabinarayan Mishra said that any passenger returning from African countries showing symptoms of Ebola will be immediately referred to AIIMS Bhubaneswar for treatment and observation.

If any Ebola case is detected, the patient will be kept in quarantine at AIIMS for up to 21 days. The Health Department has instructed the hospital to keep eight dedicated isolation beds ready for emergency management.

While screening and surveillance have already been intensified at Biju Patnaik International Airport, health teams at Paradip Port have also been placed on alert. Authorities have made arrangements for the immediate medical transfer of any passenger showing Ebola-related symptoms.

Dr. Mishra clarified that no Ebola patient has been detected in Odisha so far.

Health officials stated that Ebola symptoms include fever, cough, chills, vomiting, diarrhoea, and bleeding complications. The disease can spread through close contact with an infected person, making early testing, isolation, and medical monitoring extremely important.
