Chinese President Xi Jinping landed in New Delhi on Saturday to participate in the 18th BRICS Summit, ending a seven-year pause in his visits to India. Traditional dancers from northeastern and various other Indian states greeted him with classical performances upon his arrival. Later today, he will hold critical bilateral discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, aiming to stabilise relations following prolonged military friction along the Line of Actual Control. Historically, eastern Indian regions share ancient maritime trading links with China, though current talks focus heavily on modern border security and trade.

Top-ranking officials, including Communist Party of China Central Committee director Cai Qi and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, accompanied him. This diplomatic engagement marks his first return since the 2019 informal gathering in Mamallapuram.
Beijing plans to push strong collaborative proposals for developing nations, mirroring recent strategies seen during the Bishkek SCO meetings. Together, BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation now encompass over half of the global population and generate roughly 30 percent of the world’s economic output.
Marking the 20th anniversary of BRICS cooperation and the 25th year of the SCO, the Chinese leader continues to champion structural expansion. He has repeatedly described both alliances as core defenders of developing economies, stating their foundations rest firmly within the Global South. Through platforms like BRICS Plus, emerging powers are actively reshaping international networks.

Border confrontations have strained diplomatic relations for years, making these leadership talks essential for regional stability. Chinese Ambassador Xu Feihong emphasized Beijing's desire to build constructive partnerships based on mutual respect and long-term vision. He expressed hope that both nations can manage their differences successfully while acting as good neighbours who help one another succeed.
