Bhubaneswar, Sept 24: Nurses in Odisha are set to begin a cease-work agitation despite government warnings.
The Director of Nursing has instructed healthcare facility chiefs to take action against the striking nursing officers, citing the Odisha Emergency Services (Maintenance) Act 1988, which prohibits strikes by medical staff.
The Odisha Nursing Employees Association (ONEA) has expressed dissatisfaction over unaddressed demands, prompting their decision to cease work from September 27, across state-run hospitals, excluding critical areas like ICU, emergency OT, and labor rooms.
A nurse commented, "The government’s use of ESMA feels like an indirect threat to patient care. We didn't want to take this step, but we've been pushed into it."
Although the government had previously assured the association that their demands would be reviewed, the lack of action has led to this escalation.
The nurses are determined to proceed with their agitation, highlighting ongoing issues within the healthcare system
