Bhubaneswar, July 20: The 15-year-old girl, who sustained severe burn injuries after being allegedly set on fire by three miscreants in Nimapara block of Odisha's Puri district, was airlifted to AIIMS Delhi on Sunday for advanced medical care.
To ensure her quick and safe transport, a green corridor was established from the hospital to Bhubaneswar airport.
As per reports, the minor, who was admitted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar with 70-75% burn injuries, was transferred in a fully equipped air ambulance with life support.
Her family members were present at AIIMS Bhubaneswar as she was being transferred to the airport.
Sources indicate that the next 48 hours are crucial for the minor’s survival. A team of medical professionals is accompanying her during the air transfer, and arrangements have already been made at AIIMS Delhi for immediate specialized treatment upon her arrival.
Meanwhile, hospital officials confirmed that the girl remains in critical condition, with 70-75 percent deep burns covering her limbs, back, and torso. Although she was not on a ventilator, she continues to receive oxygen support.
Head of the Burn Unit at AIIMS Bhubaneswar Dr. Sanjay Giri stated that the medical team is in constant touch with AIIMS Delhi regarding the victim’s condition.
He mentioned that while she is responsive, the severity of her burns remains a major concern and assured that her treatment is ongoing with close observation.
Earlier yesterday, AIIMS Bhubaneswar constituted a 14-member expert committee for the management and monitoring of the treatment of the victim.
Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida has announced that the state government will bear all her medical expenses.
