Angul, Sept 20: In a disturbing incident in Odisha's Angul district, a man allegedly poisoned his two minor sons in an attempt to kill them, before ingesting the poison himself to commit suicide reportedly due to domestic discord.

The accused has been identified as Kali Charan Pradhan and the incident has been reported from Tube village under Jarapada police limits in the district.

According to local villagers, Pradhan often fought with his wife over various family matters. The couple had another heated argument earlier today, after which Pradhan took their two sons, Nilamadhab (14) and Jigyanshu (8), on a motorcycle ride.

He is said to have taken the two minor boys to the Nuakheta area under Bantala police limits, where he offered them 'Chhenapoda' laced with poison. Pradhan also ingested the poison in a bid to take his own life.

The police were alerted to the incident and quickly arrived at the scene. When they attempted to apprehend him, the accused allegedly bit several officers. In total, seven police personnel, including the IIC, sustained injuries.

The two minor boys were rushed to a nearby health center in critical condition and were later transferred to a hospital in Cuttack for further treatment.

Further investigation into the matter is underway.
