Odisha: Man gets lifer for raping minor girl in Mayurbhanj

Baripada, May 20: A Special Fast Track POCSO Court in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district awarded life imprisonment to a 30-year-old man for raping a minor girl.
The convict has been identified as Hemendra Nayak.
As per reports, the court, presided over by Judge Santosh Kumar Nayak, convicted the man and announced the punishment. It also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the convict. He has to undergo additional imprisonment for a period of six months if he fails to pay the fine amount.
According to the case diary, the incident happened on June 4, 2024. A minor girl and her younger sister were on their way to a nearby market when the convict approached them. He offered them chocolates and persuaded the younger sister to go back home.
Then, he took the older girl to a nearby bus, where he committed the crime. The victim later told her family, and a case was filed at the Jasipur police station.
The court found the accused guilty based on witness statements, medical reports, and the police investigation. The judge also ordered the District Legal Services Authority to give Rs 3 lakh as compensation to the victim.
Public prosecutor Manaranjan Pattnaik handled the case.
